Townies win state old pro tourney
The Tarno Townies won a second straight North Dakota amateur baseball old pro state tournament championship at Jack Brown Stadium on July 20-21.
The Townies defeated Kidder County 10-4, Tolna 7-2 and Fairview 12-2 en route to the title. Cory Anderson pitched the Townies to victory in both games 1 and 2, fanning nine Kidder County batters.
Steve Bennion (three hits) and Andy Fitzgerald (two hits, three RBIs) paced the title team's offense vs. KC, while the Townies' Jared Purdy connected for a three-run home run against Tolna. Anderson, Purdy, Bennion, Bryan Erstad (three RBIs) and Matt Goehner all posted a pair of hits in the 10-run win over Fairview in the finale, with Ryan Leroux scattering four hits from the pitcher's mound to earn the win.
Other scores: Tolna 14, Fairview 5; Kidder County 6, Fairview 0; Tolna 14, Kidder County 5.
Hillcrest Open is Aug. 2
The four-person Hillcrest Open golf scramble is scheduled for Aug. 2 at Hillcrest Golf Course.

The Open begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Registration is $40 per player, which includes green fees, mulligans, hole contests, lunch and a beverage.
