Kaiann Arellano

Arellano named athlete of week

Jamestown local Kaiann Arellano was named North Star Athletic Association women's indoor field athlete of the week.

The senior scored a personal record of 3,387 points in the pentathlon during the University of North Dakota Open Indoor Meet on Friday. She won four of the five events featured in the pentathlon.

The score will send Arellano to Pittsburg, Kansas for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Nationals on March 1-3.

Mustangs top Rockets

Joslyn Hoyt buried five 3-pointers and scored 24 points Monday night in Glenfield, helping Midkota girls basketball top visiting New Rockford-Sheyenne 53-45.

Jakenda Short hit a pair of treys and added 16 points for the winning team. Hannah Haley dropped in 21 for the Rockets.
