Two sweeps for Jimmies in Iowa

Runs came in bunches for the University of Jamestown baseball and softball teams on Sunday in Iowa.

The Jimmie softball team scored 32 times in routing Waldorf 16-3 and 16-9, while the baseball team rolled 12-8 and 6-1 over the Warriors in Forest City, Iowa. The games were the North Star Athletic Association openers for both teams.

Another round of doubleheaders is scheduled for today.

Baseball

Mark Kane hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs total as the Jimmies (19-8) overcame an early 3-0 deficit in the opener.

Peter Pennylegion and Scooter Turin each had two hits and two RBI in game 1.

Jerome Byndloss went the first 5 1/3 innings on the mound to get the win. Brodie Stairs, Nick Torres and Eric Evans each fired scoreless innings in relief.

Brad Bennett was dominant on the hill in the nightcap. The senior right-hander allowed just two hits and an unearned run in the Jimmies' 6-1 win. Bennett fanned seven and walked none.

Landon Uetz clubbed a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Uetz and Nico Kelly each had two-hit games.

Softball

The Jimmies had the long ball working Sunday.
Emma Keller had three homers, two in the opener, as Jamestown hit six round trippers on the day.
Tifani Schorzman also went deep in the opener, while Keller, Marissa Duchi and Linda Ontiveros homered in the finale.
Hanna Dunnigan was the winning pitcher in the opener. She also had three hits. Duchi added two knocks as the Jimmies improved to 19-12.
