Vicente and Elias Sablan of Port Orchard, Wash., have signed with the University of Jamestown baseball team.
The Sablan brothers have a direct tie to the Jimmies. Assistant coach Boya Quichocho is their uncle.
Vince Sablan was the starting shortstop at Olympic College in Bremerton, Wash., while Alex Sablan was the starting catcher. Vince hit .244 with two home runs and 22 runs batted in, while Alex led the team in batting average (.333), doubles (15) and RBI (30). Olympic College plays in the North West Athletic Association, a top wood-bat league in Washington.
Quichocho said it's a dream come true to be able to coach his nephews.
"Since I've been gone from Port Orchard, they have been filling their closets with the orange and black so it's very special that they will be able to wear those colors as my players now," said Quichocho, a former standout player for the Jimmies before becoming a coach. "I know they will have a chance to help our team tremendously on the field, and I also know that they will truly embrace being a Jimmie through and through.
