Valley City State University has a new athletic director.

University President Steve Shirley on Monday said Jack Denholm had accepted the position and will begin July 19.

"Jack's outstanding qualities in athletic leadership and his commitment to academic excellence are both fundamental elements to Vikings athletics," said VCSU president Dr. Steve Shirley. "We are very pleased to have Jack join the VCSU community, and look forward to welcoming Jack and his family to Valley City."

Denholm is athletic director and dean of student services at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

"This is a great opportunity for me, and I am very excited to have been selected for this job," Denholm said. "I'm fired up to get there and get started."

Denholm spent seven years at Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minn., prior to his time at Ellsworth CC. He was the head wrestling and softball coach at the school and also an assistant football coach.

He replaces B.J. Pumroy, who recently resigned at VCSU after three years to take the AD position at Shepherd University in West Virginia.
