EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Vikings have waived quarterback R.J. Archer, a rookie free agent from William and Mary.

The team announced the move Tuesday. It leaves four quarterbacks on Minnesota's roster, assuming Brett Favre decides to play this season. Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels and Joe Webb are the others.

Webb was originally pegged as a wide receiver after being drafted in the sixth round out of Alabama-Birmingham, but he has impressed the coaches at practice with his work as a quarterback.

Indications are Favre will return for his second season in Minnesota, although nothing is official yet.
