(TSX) - A day before Frank Beamer coaches his final game for Virginia Tech, he suspended starting linebacker Deon Clarke along with wide receivers Kevin Asante and Demitri Knowles from the Independence Bowl against Tulsa because of unspecified team violations.
According to the Washington Post, Knowles did not make the trip to Shreveport, La., after he showed up late to pregame practices and meetings at the school. Clarke and Asante were suspended for unspecified reasons after the first night away from Virginia Tech's campus, according to the report.
"To me, all those little things are a sign of this is important or not important," Beamer told reporters Thursday. "That's me."
All three players are seniors. Clarke is the only starter.
Clarke started 11 games and had 77 tackles after missing the final three games of the 2014 regular season for violating team rules. He also was benched for the first half against Georgia Tech for disciplinary reasons.
Asante has one reception in 11 games this season and Knowles had one catch in two games.
