Yellow Jackets sting Jimmies

A not-so-friendly night in the front row spelled disaster for the Jamestown College women's volleyball in Spearfish, S.D. on Friday night.

The Jimmies handed the Yellow Jackets of Black Hills State University 24 points via hitting errors in front of the net, as the Yellow Jackets snapped Jamestown College's 4-match winning streak with a 3-1 victory over the Jimmies on their home court.

Jamestown College's hitting percentage during the match stayed below .200, except in the third frame when the Jimmies swung .297 percent on 37 attacking attempts. Things got ugly in the deciding fourth set, however, as the Jimmies hit a dismal .029 percent on 35 attempts.

The Jimmies won the first game 25-22, but after that it was all Yellow Jackets by the finals of 25-20, 25-20, 25-17.

Jamestown College had won 7 of its last 8 matches heading in to Friday night's battle with Black Hills Sate. The loss also came as a little bit of a surprise, considering the Jimmies handily defeated the Yellow Jackets 25-14, 25-16, 25-21 inside the Hansen Center back on Sept. 16.

It was the Jimmies' first loss since falling to Minot State 3-1 back on Oct. 3.

Junior outside hitter Katie Zent led the Jimmies with 10 kills, while Jada Meiklejohn tossed up a team-high 24 assists.

The Jimmies' Heather Brown (9) and Sarah Becker (9) teamed up for 18 kills, as junior defensive specialist Katie Lee led the team in digs with 19.

Jamestown College (17-9) won't have a lot of time to brush off the loss, as they'll be right back on the court today in Rapid City, S.D.

The Jimmies will be taking on South Dakota Mines at 7 p.m.
