Sunny the cat did his annual winter prediction on Groundhog Day.
Emerging from the warmth of his house, Sunny the cat, Jamestown's feline fill-in for Punxsutawney Phil, the world famous weather-predicting groundhog, saw his shadow Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, and "furcasts" six more weeks of winter across the region. The traditional folklore is if the furry rodent emerges from its burrow on Groundhog Day and sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den, and winter will go on for six more weeks. If it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early.
