North Dakota's spring duck brood index was up 37 percent from last year, and the fall flight is expected to be up 12 percent, the Game and Fish Department reported. Duck season opens Saturday, Sept. 22, in Minnesota and in North Dakota for resident hunters. Nonresident hunters can hunt waterfowl in North Dakota beginning Saturday, Sept. 29.
