GRAND FORKS — A man is being held in Grand Forks County Jail after being apprehended on charges related to an alleged Houston-based marriage fraud conspiracy designed to circumvent United States immigration laws. According to an indictment filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Bao Hoang Nguyen had a role in a "large-scale" scheme to enter the country through sham marriages. Federal officials allege the operation, which operated throughout Texas and Vietnam, allowed clients to pay $50,000 to $70,000 to gain full permanent resident status in the U.S.
FARGO — A federal civil rights lawsuit has been brought against Valley City and Barnes County law enforcement officials after a 72-year-old man arrested for DUI died at a Fargo hospital six days after being taken into custody. The suit comes after the Cass County State’s Attorney's Office announced in November 2018 that no criminal charges would be filed in the death of Warren Lindvold, who died of a broken neck after he was arrested July 15 by Valley City police on suspicion of DUI.
FARGO — The man found dead and badly burned in a Fargo home on Feb. 22 served nearly 30 years in prison for stabbing his wife to death in Grand Forks in 1982. Ronald Alvin Gant, 61, pleaded guilty in 1983 to killing his wife, Mary Louise Gant, and was sentenced to 43 years in prison. He was released in 2011. On Feb. 22, Gant's body was found in the basement of a home in Fargo where a fire occurred, according to Fargo police.
