Hayden Overby had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead top-ranked Thompson to a 57-47 overtime win over Bismarck Shiloh Christian Saturday, March 16, in the championship game of the Class B boys state basketball championship in the Minot State Dome. Thompson (26-1) won its first state basketball championship in its first trip to state and sent Shiloh (23-4) home without a crown for the 13th time.

Cadyn Schwabe made four free throws in the last 20 seconds and Hayden Overby intercepted an inbounds pass with seconds left to secure the win for top-ranked Thompson. The Tommies will play Bismarck Shiloh Christian in Saturday night’s championship game. Both teams are seeking their first state title.

The Bismarck Shiloh Christian Skyhawks took a lot of threes and made a lot of threes Friday, March 15, in a 64-51 win over Richland in the semifinals of the Class B boys state basketball tournament semifinals at the Minot State Dome. Cole Walth and Canaan Fagerland had six 3-pointers apiece for the Skyhawks (23-3), who will in the school’s first championship game Saturday night. As a team, Shiloh made 14 of 33 3-point attempts.

Bohl, who finished with 29 points, hit the biggest from 25 feet out with 44 seconds left after the Rockets had clawed to within 55-52 with 1 minute, 16 seconds remaining. Thompson beat Ellendale 58-49 in their first-ever state tournament game, putting the Tommies in Friday night’s semifinal game.

Thirty-two years after Devils Lake beat the Patriots in the state title game, the Patriots fought off the Firebirds down the stretch to post a 69-61 win and claim their second straight state title Saturday night, March 9, at the Bismarck Event Center.

Chloe Markovic had 15 points to lead 10 players into the scoring column as the top-ranked and unbeaten Patriots beat Bismarck Legacy 60-25 in a North Dakota Class A state tournament semifinal game at the Bismarck Event Center.

With the win, Legacy (18-7) advances to today’s semifinals against Bismarck Century. Shanley (20-5) falls into the consolation round against Grand Forks Red River.
BISMARCK — Top-ranked and unbeaten Bismarck Century took the first step toward defense of its state title with an impressive 65-33 win over Grand Forks Red River Thursday, March 7, in the first round of the North Dakota Class A girls state basketball tournament at the Bismarck Event Center. The Patriots (25-0) have defeated four opponents in the postseason by an average of 23 points. That includes a 29-point dismantling of Mandan the week before in the West Region title game.
